Mourning Moon (2006)
11" × 15"
watercolor

November

This is the moon of mourning. In many pagan religions this is the moon where the Goddess mourns the death of her consort the God of the Hunt and Havest. In her womb she carries him as the unborn sun who will be born at the Winter Solstice in December. In her globe she holds a broken heart and holds a hand over her own. For anyone this can be a time to mourn any losses. Into every life a little rain must fall, as the saying goes.

Mourning allows a cleansing, a purging, so that we may let go so something new may bloom in its place. What things need to be mourned and let go?
